Ogun Supermarket Heist: Security Guard and Accomplice Caught After Stealing Goods Worth ₦14 Million

Two suspects, including a security guard entrusted with protecting a supermarket, have been arrested for allegedly orchestrating a burglary that led to the theft of goods worth ₦14 million in Ogun State.

The Shocking Betrayal
The incident unfolded in Oke-Afa, Magboro, within the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. One of the suspects, Mohammed Adams, was the night guard responsible for securing the supermarket. Instead of safeguarding the premises, he reportedly opened the gates for his accomplices, giving them free access to loot the store.

How the Crime Was Discovered
According to Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, the supermarket owner, Adelanke Olalekan, received an early-morning call from a So-Safe Corps personnel at around 5:45 AM, notifying him that his store had been broken into. Rushing to the scene, Olalekan was devastated to find his shop ransacked, with goods worth millions carted away.

CCTV Footage Exposes the Inside Job
Following the report, officers from the Warewa Police Division swiftly launched an investigation. A review of the supermarket’s CCTV footage revealed that Adams, the supposed protector of the premises, had intentionally unlocked the gate for the criminals. Upon interrogation, he confessed to masterminding the heist.

Accomplice Arrested, Investigation Ongoing
Further police inquiries led to the arrest of another suspect, Mastaudu Mohammed, who was allegedly involved in the crime. The police have assured that investigations are ongoing to uncover all those linked to the burglary and to recover the stolen goods.

Police Urge Residents to Be Security Conscious
Reacting to the incident, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, emphasized the importance of vigilance. He urged residents and business owners to prioritize security, stating that many crimes could be prevented if people remained cautious and implemented proper safety measures.

This incident serves as a reminder that even trusted individuals can pose security risks, making it crucial for businesses to adopt additional safety measures such as surveillance systems and background checks for employees.
