Commandant Oloyede Oyerinde Vows to Clamp Down on Criminal Activities
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bauchi State has intensified its fight against crime with the arrest of five individuals involved in various offences, including pipeline vandalism, motorcycle theft, rape, and fuel siphoning.
Speaking during a press briefing on Saturday, March 15, 2025, the NSCDC Commandant, Oloyede Oyerinde, reiterated the corps’ commitment to protecting lives, property, and critical infrastructure in the state.
“These arrests are part of our ongoing efforts to rid Bauchi State of criminal elements who engage in activities that threaten public safety and economic stability. We will ensure that all suspects face justice accordingly.” — Oloyede Oyerinde
The commandant also urged residents to support security agencies by providing useful information that can help combat crime more effectively.
Breakdown of the Arrests and Crimes Committed
Security operatives of the NSCDC apprehended the suspects at different locations across the state, following intelligence reports and surveillance efforts.
1. Motorcycle Theft Syndicate Busted in Toro LGA
Two suspects were arrested at a lodge in Magama Gumau, Toro Local Government Area (LGA) for their involvement in a motorcycle theft syndicate.
According to Commandant Oyerinde, the suspects were caught with multiple stolen motorcycles in their possession. Further investigations revealed that the suspects had been on the security watchlist for weeks, following a series of reported motorcycle thefts in the region.
“Motorcycle theft has become a major concern in Bauchi. These criminals steal motorcycles, dismantle them, and sell the parts in the black market. We are determined to put an end to this menace.”
🔹 2. Pipeline Vandalism and Illegal Kerosene Extraction in Alkaleri
On March 7, 2025, NSCDC operatives arrested a suspect engaged in pipeline vandalism and illegal extraction of kerosene in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
Pipeline vandalism remains a significant threat in Nigeria, often causing:
✔️ Fuel scarcity due to illegal siphoning
✔️ Environmental degradation from oil spills
✔️ Dangerous explosions leading to loss of lives
The NSCDC has vowed to crack down on all individuals involved in oil pipeline sabotage, as such activities contribute to the economic downturn and energy crisis.
“The vandalism of pipelines is a criminal offence that not only affects government revenue but also endangers lives. We will ensure that offenders are prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.”
🔹 3. Disturbing Case of Child Rape in Alkaleri
In a shocking incident, a 38-year-old man was arrested on February 26 for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Alkaleri.
The NSCDC received reports from concerned residents, leading to the swift apprehension of the suspect. The victim has since been taken to a medical facility for examination and psychological support.
Sexual violence against minors is a serious crime under Nigerian law, and the NSCDC is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure justice for the victim.
“This is a deeply disturbing case, and we are committed to ensuring that perpetrators of such heinous crimes do not go unpunished. The law will take its course.”
The case has been transferred to the appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings.
🔹 4. Diesel Siphoning from Public Infrastructure
On March 4, 2025, a 22-year-old suspect was caught siphoning diesel from a 150KVA generator meant for powering streetlights in Bauchi metropolis.
According to NSCDC operatives, the suspect was found with several jerrycans filled with stolen fuel, which he intended to sell on the black market.
“The theft of public utilities undermines government efforts to provide essential services. We are warning criminals to desist from such activities, as they will face the full wrath of the law.”
The suspect is currently in detention and will be charged in court upon the completion of investigations.
Security Challenges in Bauchi: A Growing Concern
Bauchi State, like many parts of Nigeria, has been grappling with rising criminal activities, including:
✔️ Pipeline vandalism and oil theft
✔️ Motorcycle and vehicle theft
✔️ Sexual violence against minors
✔️ Theft of public utilities and infrastructure
The NSCDC has intensified efforts to tackle these security threats, collaborating with local communities and law enforcement agencies.
“We are calling on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Security is a collective responsibility.”
NSCDC’s Commitment: No Room for Criminals
Commandant Oloyede Oyerinde emphasized that all five suspects would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He warned criminals to steer clear of illegal activities, as the NSCDC will not hesitate to bring offenders to justice.
“The days of criminals having a free hand in Bauchi are over. We are determined to restore law and order, and we will continue to work with security agencies to ensure peace and stability in the state.”
The NSCDC also reaffirmed its mission to safeguard critical infrastructure, prevent crime, and uphold national security.
Call to Action: Community Vigilance is Key
Security experts emphasize that community cooperation plays a crucial role in crime prevention. Residents are urged to:
✔️ Report suspicious activities to security agencies
✔️ Be cautious and protect personal property
✔️ Avoid engaging in illegal transactions involving stolen goods
The NSCDC’s emergency hotline remains open for residents to report incidents anonymously, ensuring that communities remain safe and crime-free.
