Former Speaker’s Strategic Appeal to President Tinubu
Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize two major projects in Bauchi State—reviving oil exploration and constructing the Bagel Dam in Dass Local Government Area. Dogara believes these initiatives will not only boost economic development but also secure massive voter support for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking at the commissioning of a road project in Toro LGA over the weekend, Dogara emphasized the transformative potential of these projects. “If President Tinubu awards and starts the Bagel Dam project and revisits oil exploration in Bauchi, does he even need to campaign here for 2027?” he asked the crowd, which responded with a resounding “Yes!”
Bagel Dam: A Game-Changer for Bauchi
Dogara highlighted the Bagel multipurpose dam as a critical infrastructure project that would supply electricity to all local governments in Bauchi South. This, he argued, would drive industrialization, create jobs, and boost the local economy.
“The Bagel Dam is not just a dam; it’s a catalyst for development. It will power industries, improve agriculture, and transform lives,” Dogara said.
Oil Exploration: A Path to Economic Prosperity
The former Speaker also stressed the importance of reviving oil exploration in Bauchi, noting that the state’s inclusion in Nigeria’s league of oil-producing states would significantly increase its federal revenue allocation.
“Oil production will bring immense economic benefits to Bauchi. It will create jobs, attract investments, and position our state as a key player in the nation’s economy,” he explained.
APC’s Strength in Bauchi
Addressing rumors of declining support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi, Dogara dismissed such claims, asserting that the party remains strong despite being in opposition at the state level.
“APC is very much alive in Bauchi. Those who think otherwise are only deceiving themselves. When the time comes, we will take back the state,” he declared confidently.
Why This Matters
Dogara’s appeal underscores the intersection of development and politics, as infrastructure projects often play a pivotal role in shaping voter sentiment. By championing these initiatives, Dogara aims to position Bauchi as a key beneficiary of Tinubu’s administration while strengthening the APC’s foothold in the state.
What’s Next?
As the 2027 elections draw closer, it remains to be seen whether President Tinubu will heed Dogara’s call. If implemented, these projects could indeed transform Bauchi’s economic landscape and solidify Tinubu’s support base in the region.
