A Welcome Relief at the Pump
In a move that has brought cheer to many Nigerians, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. The ex-depot price has been cut by N65, bringing the cost down to N825 per litre, effective February 27, 2025. This marks the second price reduction in February, following a previous N60 decrease earlier in the month.
The New Prices: What to Expect
With the latest adjustment, Nigerians can expect to purchase Dangote petrol at the following prices across partner retail outlets:
MRS Holdings Stations:
Lagos: N860 per litre
South-West: N870 per litre
North: N880 per litre
South-South and South-East: N890 per litre
This reduction is part of Dangote’s efforts to provide essential relief to consumers, particularly as the Ramadan season approaches.
A Trend of Price Reductions
This is not the first time Dangote has reduced petrol prices. In December 2024, the refinery slashed the price by N70.50, from N970 to N899.50 per litre. These consistent reductions reflect the refinery’s commitment to easing the financial burden on Nigerians amid rising economic challenges.
Why This Matters
The reduction in petrol prices is a significant development for Nigerians, who have been grappling with high fuel costs and their ripple effects on transportation and goods prices. The timing of the reduction, just before Ramadan, is particularly impactful, as it will help ease the financial strain on households during the holy month.
A Step Toward Economic Relief
Dangote’s decision to reduce petrol prices is a welcome move that underscores the importance of private sector interventions in addressing national challenges. As Nigerians prepare for Ramadan, the price cut offers a glimmer of hope and relief, demonstrating the potential for local refineries to positively influence the economy.
For now, consumers can look forward to more affordable fuel, with hopes that this trend will continue in the months ahead.
