“Why My Wife Stayed Behind During Campaigns – Gov Aiyedatiwa Opens Up”

A Governor’s Perspective on Family and Politics
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, recently shared a heartfelt explanation for why his wife, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, did not join him during his political campaigns. In an interview with Channels TV, the governor likened Nigerian elections to a “war front” and emphasized the importance of family support behind the scenes. Here’s what he had to say.

Campaigns Are Like a War Front
Governor Aiyedatiwa described the intense nature of political campaigns in Nigeria, comparing them to going to war. He explained that the high stakes, security concerns, and unpredictable nature of elections made it impractical to involve his wife in the public aspects of his campaign.

His Words:
“When you are at work and you are on the war front, you don’t take your wife to the war front anyway. And you know the election in this part of the world is like you are going to war. So no soldier takes his wife to the war front. They stay back at home praying and doing all the things.”

The Role of a Supportive Spouse
While Mrs. Aiyedatiwa was not visible during the campaigns, the governor revealed that she played a crucial role behind the scenes. She was actively involved in organizing, praying, and providing the emotional support needed to navigate the challenges of the campaign trail.

His Words:
“During campaign years, I was there with my deputy and all our supporters. But don’t forget, just like while you are there now at the studio, your wife is not there with you. So I see that as being at work. And you don’t take your wife to your place of work. At the time, we were running on the street, campaigning, she was back home there, probably praying for us.”

A Celebration After the Battle
Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted the difference between the campaign period and celebratory events. He noted that his wife joined him during his second-term swearing-in ceremony, which he described as a moment of celebration after the “war” of the election.

His Words:
“Today is a ceremonial occasion, and she was there. So I don’t understand what you really mean by that. But when you are at work and you are on the war front, you don’t take your wife to the war front anyway. But when he comes after the war; after the war and the ceremony comes, then they will show up.”

The Bigger Picture: Family and Public Life
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s comments shed light on the delicate balance between public life and family responsibilities. His decision to keep his wife away from the campaign trail reflects a thoughtful approach to protecting his family while fulfilling his political duties. It also underscores the often-overlooked role of spouses who provide unwavering support behind the scenes.

A Lesson in Prioritizing Family
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s explanation offers a glimpse into the challenges faced by political leaders and their families. While the public may not always see the sacrifices made by spouses, their contributions are invaluable. As the governor celebrates his second term, it’s clear that his wife’s prayers and support played a significant role in his journey.
