A devastating tanker explosion on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos on Tuesday left one person dead and three others severely injured. The tanker, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), burst into flames, sending residents and motorists scrambling for safety.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement. He revealed that three adult males with severe burns were rescued and rushed to the Gbagada General Hospital burns unit, while the body of an adult male was recovered from the scene.

LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team was immediately deployed to the scene to bring the situation under control. Oke-Osanyintolu assured the public that all hands were on deck to extinguish the flames. He also urged motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes to prevent further congestion and risk.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) also confirmed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
