Ronaldo Nazario Withdraws from Brazilian FA Presidential Race, Citing Lack of Dialogue

Former Real Madrid Star Steps Back from CBF Election Bid
Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazario has announced his decision to withdraw from the race for the presidency of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF). The former Real Madrid and Barcelona striker had previously expressed his ambition to challenge the current president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, in the upcoming elections.

However, after consulting with football stakeholders across Brazil, Ronaldo decided to step away from the race, citing a lack of openness to dialogue within the organization.

Ronaldo: “No Openness to Dialogue”
In a statement published by Football Espana, the 48-year-old expressed frustration over his inability to present his vision for Brazilian football.

“After publicly declaring my desire to run for the CBF presidency in the upcoming elections, I hereby officially withdraw my intention.”

He explained that his attempts to connect with key decision-makers were largely ignored, making it impossible for him to campaign effectively.

“In my first contact with the 27 affiliates, I found 23 doors closed. The federations refused to welcome me into their homes, arguing that they were satisfied with the current administration and supported reelection.”

“I was unable to present my project, share my ideas, and have them heard as I would have liked. There was no openness to dialogue.”

Why Ronaldo’s Exit Matters
Ronaldo had positioned himself as a reformer who wanted to modernize Brazilian football administration.
CBF remains under controversy, with concerns over governance and decision-making transparency.
Rodrigues retains strong backing from the state football federations, making it difficult for challengers like Ronaldo to gain traction.
With Ronaldo stepping aside, Ednaldo Rodrigues’ reelection bid appears stronger than ever, unless another high-profile candidate emerges before the elections.
