The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Umar Illiya Damagun, has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the federal government against any attempt to impose a state of emergency in Osun State as a means to take over governance.
Key Highlights:
🔹 Rejects APC’s Alleged Plot – Damagun accuses the ruling party of orchestrating political instability in Osun to justify a federal takeover.
🔹 Calls for Focus on National Issues – Urges the federal government to prioritize fixing the economy rather than interfering in state politics.
🔹 Warns Against Intimidation – Stresses that Nigeria is not a ‘banana republic’ and citizens will resist any anti-democratic actions.
🔹 Security Concerns – Calls on security agencies to remain non-partisan and ensure fairness in handling political matters.
Damagun’s Statement:
“It is clear that the people have rejected the APC government in Nigeria, so no one should contemplate using a state of emergency to suppress the opposition.”
He further lamented the rising cost of living and insecurity under APC rule, asserting that Nigerians deserve governance focused on development, not political control.
PDP’s Stand on Osun’s Leadership
Damagun reaffirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke is delivering good governance to Osun people, dismissing APC’s claims of poor leadership. He also urged Osun residents to stay loyal to the PDP and resist distractions.
“The PDP believes in the rule of law and democracy. We will not allow anyone to undermine our party or intimidate our members.”
The PDP leader assured party members and Nigerians that despite internal challenges, the PDP remains the strongest opposition party and will continue fighting for democracy and good governance.
