Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has expressed his excitement about working with the team’s newly appointed head coach, Eric Chelle, as Nigeria prepares for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Super Eagles Set to Reunite for World Cup Qualifiers
The Nigerian national team is set to assemble this weekend ahead of crucial qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. This will be the first time most of the players will be meeting the Malian tactician, who took charge earlier this year.
Chelle has already made efforts to connect with key players, visiting Europe in January to meet with Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Moses Simon.
Osimhen: “I Understand His Vision”
Speaking to BBC Sports Africa, Osimhen revealed that he has already spoken with the new coach multiple times and understands his objectives for the team.
“I’ve spoken to him a couple of times and clearly understand the objectives he has set for himself and for the players.”
Nigeria’s Struggle in the Qualifiers
The Super Eagles are currently fifth in Group C, having failed to win any of their previous matches in the qualifiers. With only the top team guaranteed a spot at the World Cup, there is mounting pressure on Chelle and his squad.
Osimhen: “We Must Fight for World Cup Qualification”
Osimhen, who recently joined Galatasaray, emphasized that the responsibility of winning matches goes beyond just the coach’s tactics.
“It takes more than a coach to win football matches. Players must also be at their best, show commitment, and bear in mind that we can all fly together to reach our goal.”
The Napoli forward-turned-Galatasaray star remains determined to lead Nigeria to another World Cup appearance, following their absence in Qatar 2022.
