A New Era for NYSC
Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu officially assumed office as the 23rd Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on March 7, 2025. During the handover ceremony in Abuja, Nafiu outlined his vision for the scheme, emphasizing the welfare of corps members, staff, and the enhancement of key programs such as the job-matching initiative.
Nafiu, who previously served as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff, brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to transparent leadership to his new role.

In his address, Nafiu highlighted his commitment to improving the welfare of corps members and staff, ensuring that their service year is a memorable and impactful experience.
“The well-being of corps members will always be a top priority. We will work hard to ensure that their service is one of the most memorable experiences of their lives,” he said.
He also pledged to enhance the job-matching program, which aims to help corps members secure employment in the private sector.
“It will also be aimed at incentivizing employers to retain a significant number of our corps members after their service year,” he added.
Improvements in Camp Feeding and Hygiene
Nafiu acknowledged the importance of maintaining high standards in camp feeding and hygiene, promising to address these areas during his tenure.
“My team and I shall work tirelessly to enhance camp feeding and hygiene,” he stated, underscoring his commitment to creating a conducive environment for corps members.

The new DG praised the NYSC for its role in fostering national unity since its establishment in 1973. He urged staff to continue serving as exemplary role models for corps members, emphasizing the importance of discipline, integrity, and patriotism.

A Master’s in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College.
A Master of International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
A BSc in Geography from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
