Mass Defection in Kaduna: Three PDP Lawmakers Cross Over to APC

“PDP’s Dominance Is Crumbling” – Lawmakers Explain Their Move

In a major political shift, three Kaduna State House of Assembly members elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)—a move they claim is in response to Governor Uba Sani’s leadership and performance.

The lawmakers making the switch are:
Henry Mara (Jaba Constituency)
Emmanuel Kantiok (Zonkwa Constituency)
Samuel Kambai (Zango Constituency)

They announced their defection on Thursday at their respective wards, with their supporters rallying behind them.

Why the Sudden Defection?

In separate interviews, the lawmakers expressed their reasons for abandoning the PDP:

🔹 Aligning with the State Leadership – They praised Governor Uba Sani’s governance, citing it as the main reason for their realignment.
🔹 Political Strategy – They believe they can serve their constituents better under the ruling party.
🔹 The Fall of PDP in Southern Kaduna – According to Henry Mara, the PDP’s stronghold in Southern Kaduna is collapsing, and more defections are expected.
🔹 APC’s Growing Popularity – Samuel Kambai highlighted how Governor Sani’s achievements have “killed opposition parties” in the state.
🔹 Security Improvements – Emmanuel Kantiok noted that the state has seen relative peace under Governor Sani, a key factor in his decision.

More Defections Coming?

This mass defection comes just two days after federal lawmaker Amos Magaji (representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency) also ditched the PDP for the APC.

With political tides shifting in Southern Kaduna, the question remains: Is this the beginning of PDP’s decline in the state?

Stay tuned for further developments!
