“Internet Providers Under Fire: Comedian IGoSave Calls for Probe Into Data Tariff Hikes”

A Comedian’s Crusade Against Telcos
Nigerian stand-up comedian Otaghware Onodjayeke, popularly known as IGoSave, has taken a bold stand against the country’s telecommunication companies. In a passionate video shared on social media, the comedian accused Internet providers of ripping off Nigerians with high data tariffs and poor service quality. His call for an investigation has sparked a national conversation about the affordability and reliability of Internet services in Nigeria.

The Trigger: A Shocking Comparison
IGoSave, who is currently in the United Kingdom, highlighted the stark difference between Internet services in Nigeria and the UK. He revealed that he purchased 20 gigabytes of data three weeks ago in the UK, and it was not only still active but also fast and reliable.

“This is the third time I will go to my service provider in the UK to top up my phone, and they will turn me back, saying I still have data. I’m in shock because I bought just 20 gigabytes three weeks ago, and it’s still working. It’s even very fast,” he said.

In contrast, IGoSave pointed out that a 50-gigabyte data plan in Nigeria often doesn’t last more than three days, despite being significantly more expensive relative to the country’s minimum wage.

The Call to Action: Investigate Telcos Now
IGoSave didn’t hold back in his criticism, urging the Nigerian government and regulatory bodies to take immediate action. “This is a clarion call to the Nigerian government, NCC (Nigerian Communications Commission), EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission), and ICPC (Independent Corrupt Practices Commission) to investigate all the telecom providers. The Internet providers in Nigeria are ripping Nigerians off,” he declared.

He went further to compare the telecom companies to Internet fraudsters, stating, “There’s no difference between them and Internet fraudsters. How much is the minimum wage in Nigeria that they are charging so much for data that doesn’t last?”

Why This Matters
IGoSave’s outcry resonates with millions of Nigerians who have long complained about the high cost and poor quality of Internet services. With the recent tariff hikes by major providers, the issue has become even more pressing. Reliable and affordable Internet is essential for education, business, and communication, making this a matter of national importance.

A Voice for the People
IGoSave’s bold stance has brought much-needed attention to the challenges Nigerians face with Internet services. As calls for an investigation grow louder, it remains to be seen whether the government and regulatory bodies will take decisive action to hold telecom companies accountable.

For now, IGoSave’s message is clear: Nigerians deserve better, and it’s time for the authorities to step up.
