A high-speed police chase in Abuja on Friday evening culminated in a dramatic crash after a suspect attempted to flee with a police officer still inside his vehicle. The incident, which occurred along the Gwarinpa-Kubwa service lane, has left one officer seriously injured and the suspect in custody.
What Happened?
The chase began around 6:00 p.m. when the Crack Squad, led by ASP Segun Ozioma Edene, stopped a Toyota Venza (GWA 151 BM) during a routine patrol. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered suspected Indian hemp and other illicit drugs.
The driver, 25-year-old Ahmed Abdul of Harmony Estate, Dawaki, was instructed to reposition his car. Instead, he sped off with Inspector Raphael Oghalla still inside the vehicle. A high-speed pursuit ensued, ending when Abdul lost control and crashed into a gutter.
Injuries and Arrest
While Abdul sustained minor injuries, Inspector Oghalla suffered serious chest wounds and is currently receiving treatment at the Police Clinic in Area 1, Garki. The damaged vehicle has been impounded, and Abdul remains in custody as investigations continue.
