“Oyo State Government Vows Immediate Assistance After Devastating Market Fire”

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has promised government support for traders affected by a fire that ravaged parts of Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan. The governor made the pledge during a visit to the scene of the incident on Wednesday, where goods and properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

“A Tragic Loss: Fire Destroys Millions in Goods”

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, caused extensive damage to the market, particularly affecting traders dealing in plastic goods. Governor Makinde, represented by his Deputy, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, expressed deep sympathy for the victims and assured them of the government’s commitment to providing immediate assistance.

“This is a big and popular market. It is so painful. Please, rest assured that the government will do the needful in terms of immediate support. It is our prayer that such will not happen again,” the governor said.

“Government’s Response: Immediate Relief and Enhanced Security”

Governor Makinde directed the Ibadan South-West Local Government and the Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to ensure adequate security measures are put in place to prevent future incidents. He also emphasized the importance of collaboration with emergency agencies to provide relief to the affected traders.

“We have come and seen, and we have also met with market men and women. The fire was aggravated because of the kind of trade (plastic business). So, you can expect that it would spread like wildfire. Nevertheless, we thank God Almighty that no life was lost,” he stated.

“Collaborative Efforts for Relief and Recovery”

The governor announced that the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (Oyo SEMA) would work alongside the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and public-spirited individuals to provide immediate support to the victims.

“As a government, we will do the needful in terms of immediate support through Oyo SEMA. We will also work with NEMA as well as public-spirited people to give immediate support to the victims of this incident,” Makinde assured.

“What’s Next for Aleshinloye Market?”

The fire incident has left many traders in distress, but the government’s swift response offers hope for recovery. Governor Makinde’s visit and promises of support underscore his administration’s commitment to the welfare of citizens and the revitalization of affected communities.
