Ekiti 2026: PDP Aspirant Fayose Vows to Unseat Governor Oyebanji, Promises Better Governance

Fayose Declares Gubernatorial Ambition, Says Ekiti Deserves Better

With the 2026 Ekiti gubernatorial election drawing near, Otunba Emmanuel Ajisafe Fayose, also known as DOME, has thrown his hat into the ring, vowing to unseat the current governor, Biodun Oyebanji. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain made this bold declaration while addressing supporters and religious leaders at Ansar-U-Deen Central Mosque in Ado Ekiti on Friday.

Fayose, who has been a vocal critic of the APC-led administration, strongly condemned the Oyebanji government, accusing it of failing in key areas such as employment, security, infrastructure, and economic relief. He insisted that Ekiti people deserve better leadership, promising to bring about real and sustainable change if elected.

“I have something better than what you are currently getting. Ekiti residents deserve more. The APC government has not done well. No job opportunities, no social amenities, and people are hungry. An empty stomach leads to an angry mind. Today, even eating once a day is difficult because everything is expensive,” Fayose said.

Ramadan Outreach: Fayose Donates Foodstuffs, Cash Gifts to Muslim Community

Fayose’s visit to the Ansar-U-Deen Central Mosque was not just a political stop but also a humanitarian effort. He used the opportunity to donate foodstuffs and cash gifts to Muslims observing the holy month of Ramadan. His gesture was well received, as many community members expressed their appreciation for his show of solidarity.

“I came to felicitate with my Muslim brothers and sisters during this Ramadan fast and to give them gifts. These gifts will serve as a relief to many families here today, and I promise not to be far away from them.”

He emphasized that governance should be about caring for the masses and ensuring their basic needs are met, rather than just making empty promises.

Fayose Criticizes Oyebanji’s ‘Cosmetic Achievements’

The PDP aspirant took a direct jab at Governor Oyebanji, dismissing his administration’s achievements as superficial and ineffective. He argued that the APC government has failed to implement real policies that can uplift the people of Ekiti.

“A government that does not provide for its people is not a responsible government. Right now, our youths have no jobs, many of them are riding motorcycles (okadas) just to survive. There is no stable electricity, no road network, no adequate security, and no economic relief for families. People are suffering!”

Fayose further urged the APC-led government to either step up or step aside, saying it has failed in its duty to cater to the people’s needs.

“If they cannot govern well, they should hand over the government. The masses are suffering, and things need to change.”

Fayose’s Vision for Ekiti: Jobs, Industries, and Infrastructure Development

Laying out his vision for Ekiti State, Fayose promised that his administration would prioritize job creation, industrial development, and infrastructural projects that will benefit the people. He outlined several key plans, including:

  • Massive employment programs to create sustainable jobs.

  • Empowerment schemes targeted at youths and women.

  • Establishment of factories to boost local production and manufacturing.

  • Investment in mechanized farming to ensure food security.

  • Revamping social amenities, including roads, healthcare, and education.

“A responsible government should put food on the table of the masses and provide them with the basic needs of life. That is what we are coming to do. We will create factories, establish mechanized farming, and launch several life-changing programs to empower our people.”

Calls for Support: “I Know What You Are Going Through”

Acknowledging the economic hardship faced by many residents, Fayose urged Ekiti people to support his candidacy and trust his leadership to bring real change.

“I know what you are going through at this moment. There is hunger in the land, and everything is expensive. The APC government has failed you, but we will bring hope and joy back to Ekiti.”

Muslim Leaders React to Fayose’s Visit

In response to Fayose’s visit, the Chief Imam of the mosque expressed gratitude for his generosity. However, he also pointed out that the Oyebanji administration has made efforts to include Muslims in governance, a notable improvement from previous governments.

While the PDP aspirant’s visit was well-received, the Chief Imam urged him to remain committed to his promises and ensure that his campaign is not just words but action.
