“Anambra Govt to Prosecute Detained Native Doctors Under New Security Law”

The Anambra State government has announced plans to arraign several native doctors currently in custody as part of its ongoing efforts to combat crime and restore sanity in the state. Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, made the disclosure during an interview with the state-owned Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) over the weekend.

Crackdown on Crime and Criminal Enablers
Dr. Mefor emphasized that the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo-led administration is committed to eradicating criminal activities in Anambra. He clarified that the government’s actions are not targeted at traditional worship but at individuals who enable crime, including native doctors who prepare charms for criminals.

“The state government is serious about its commitment to eradicating criminal activities in Anambra,” Mefor stated. “If the native doctors are convicted, they will be sentenced in accordance with the provisions of the new Anambra Homeland Security Law.”

Native Doctors in Custody
So far, three native doctors have been arrested for their alleged involvement in promoting money rituals and providing charms to criminals. Those in custody include:

Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki.

Onyebuchi Okocha, also known as Onyeze Jesus.

Another native doctor from Okija in Ihiala, known as Eke Hit.

All three individuals remain in custody pending the completion of investigations.

The New Anambra Homeland Security Law
The Soludo administration has introduced the Anambra Homeland Security Law as part of its broader strategy to tackle insecurity. The law provides a legal framework for prosecuting individuals who aid and abet criminal activities, including native doctors who supply charms and other materials to criminals.

Balancing Tradition and Security
Dr. Mefor reiterated that the government respects traditional worship but will not tolerate actions that undermine public safety. “The administration is not opposed to traditional worship, as misinterpreted by some people,” he said. “Our focus is on tackling crime and those who enable it.”

What’s Next?
Once investigations are concluded, the detained native doctors will be arraigned in court. If convicted, they could face significant penalties under the new security law. This move signals the government’s determination to address the root causes of crime and ensure the safety of Anambra residents.
