Devastating Fire Ravages Oyo’s Aleshinloye Market
A massive fire outbreak at Aleshinloye Market in Oyo State has left over 500 shops in ruins, with traders counting huge financial losses.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the blaze raged for several hours between Tuesday and Wednesday, destroying goods worth hundreds of millions of naira.
NEMA’s Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Kadiri Olanrewaju, confirmed the extent of the damage in a statement released on Thursday.
Traders Face Heavy Financial Losses
The disaster has left many traders in a dire financial situation, especially those who had just restocked their businesses before the fire.
“The fire has severely disrupted economic activities, impacting both traders and supply chains,” Olanrewaju stated.
Although no fatalities were reported, at least three traders suffered injuries and have been hospitalized. Others experienced smoke inhalation and shock while trying to salvage their goods.
A Call for Urgent Support
The incident has not only affected individual traders but has also disrupted the local economy, leading to urgent calls for government intervention and relief support.
As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, affected traders and business owners are hoping for swift assistance to help them rebuild their livelihoods.
