Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Raises Alarm Over Security Crisis
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has strongly criticized the South-East governors for their silence regarding attacks on truck drivers transporting goods from the North. The forum also declared its support for a possible boycott of haulage services to the region.
ACF: Attacks Are a Threat to National Security
In a statement issued on Tuesday, ACF National Publicity Secretary, Professor Tukur Muhammad-Baba, condemned the targeted killings, vehicle destruction, and looting allegedly carried out by suspected Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) members.
According to the ACF, these attacks pose a serious national security threat that could lead to widespread anarchy if left unchecked.
Accusations Against Security Agencies & Government
The forum blasted security agencies and the federal government for their inaction, claiming that despite numerous attacks over the past eight years, little has been done to curb the violence.
“The attackers openly claim membership of terror groups and even post videos of their gruesome actions on social media,” the statement read.
Calls for Boycott & Compensation
The National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) recently protested in Jos, Plateau State, over these persistent attacks. ACF disclosed that over 50 drivers and 100 trailers have been destroyed in the past eight years.
In response, ACF is backing NARTO and NURTW’s plan to boycott haulage services to the South-East until the situation is addressed.
Demands from ACF
The ACF has made key demands, including:
✔ Immediate intervention by security agencies
✔ Identification and prosecution of attackers
✔ Compensation for victims by Enugu and Imo State governments
✔ A state of emergency on the issue
ACF Slams South-East Leaders’ Silence
The forum also accused South-East elites and political leaders of turning a blind eye to the crisis, urging them to take responsibility and act decisively.
