In a heartbreaking turn of events, a promising final-year student of the University of Delta (UNIDEL) lost her life in a tragic accident caused by a 100-level student learning how to drive. The incident, which occurred in Agbor, Delta State, has left the community in mourning and raised serious concerns about road safety and responsible driving practices.
How It Happened
The accident took place last Tuesday in the Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. According to reports, a young 100-level student, whose identity remains undisclosed, was being taught how to drive by her boyfriend, who is allegedly an internet fraudster (popularly referred to as a “Yahoo boy”).
During the driving lesson, the inexperienced driver lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and crashed into pedestrians. Among the victims was Awele Eluemunor, a final-year student at the College of Nursing, Agbor, who was killed instantly.
A Life Cut Short
Awele Eluemunor, who was set to graduate in November, had her dreams tragically cut short. Her untimely death has left her family, friends, and the entire UNIDEL community in shock and grief.
Two other individuals were critically injured in the accident and were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Their current condition remains unknown.
A Fleeing Suspect
Eyewitnesses revealed that the boyfriend, who owned the car, fled the scene immediately after the accident, leaving the young driver behind. As of now, it is unclear whether the suspect has been apprehended by the authorities.
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident, stating, “One dead and one injured confirmed.”
