LaLiga President Javier Tebas has dismissed reports suggesting that Real Madrid is considering leaving Spain’s top-flight league due to dissatisfaction with refereeing standards.
Real Madrid’s Alleged Exit Threat
Speculation about Los Blancos quitting LaLiga arose after Jude Bellingham’s controversial red card in a 1-1 draw with Osasuna. The 21-year-old midfielder was sent off for alleged foul and abusive language directed at referee José Luis Munuera Montero.
Bellingham later denied the accusations, stating he said “f* off” to himself** rather than at the official.
Following this, Sport reported that Real Madrid was considering a dramatic move to leave LaLiga for another league.
Tebas Shuts Down Speculation
Reacting to the claims, Tebas dismissed the idea as impossible, citing legal restrictions.
“It’s a hoax. It’s impossible, and they themselves know it. There is a sports law that states Spanish clubs are obliged to play in national competitions,” Tebas said on Tuesday.
“Their threat is merely part of a strategy they are following. Which league are they going to go to?”
Why Real Madrid Can’t Leave LaLiga
Even if Real Madrid wanted to switch leagues, several legal and regulatory hurdles stand in the way:
Spanish Law: Spanish clubs must compete in national competitions as per sports law.
FIFA and UEFA Approval: Any move to another league would require official approval from both governing bodies.
Acceptance by Another League: Real Madrid would need a new league’s permission to join, which is highly unlikely.
With Tebas’ strong stance, it appears Real Madrid will have no choice but to remain in LaLiga and continue to fight their battles within the existing system.
