Foiled Attack on LG Chairman’s Residence
Armed bandits launched an attack on the residence of the Bakori Local Government Chairman in Katsina State on Sunday night, but their attempt was successfully thwarted by security personnel and local vigilantes.
According to reports, the assailants struck around 11:15 p.m. in the Sanyi neighborhood of Bakori town, hoping to gain entry into the chairman’s home.
Eyewitness: “They Came Heavily Armed”
An eyewitness, Muhammad Idris, recounted the terrifying experience, revealing that the gunmen arrived with heavy weapons but were ultimately unsuccessful in breaching the premises.
“They arrived with guns and attempted to enter the chairman’s house, but by God’s grace, they failed. They then tried to break into the residence of one Tukur Abdullahi, but security forces quickly responded, forcing the bandits to flee,” he said.
Muhammad noted that this was the first time bandits had ventured into the heart of Bakori town, as they usually target rural communities.
Bandits Abduct Trader and His Wife
Despite the failed attack on the chairman’s home, the gunmen succeeded in abducting a cattle trader, Auwalu, and his wife from the Nasarawa neighborhood, located on the outskirts of town.
“They kidnapped Auwalu and his wife because their neighborhood is on the outskirts. This is the first time these criminals have entered the town itself; they usually target villages and remote communities,” Muhammad added.
Police Yet to Respond
Efforts to get an official statement from the Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Sadiq Aliyu, proved unsuccessful, as he neither answered calls nor responded to WhatsApp messages regarding the incident.

Katsina State remains one of the most affected regions in northwest Nigeria, where armed groups continue to terrorize communities, often facing little resistance in some rural areas.
With increasing attacks on urban areas, concerns are growing over the worsening security situation and the need for stronger countermeasures to curb the menace.
