“Wike Sets Conditions for Peace in Rivers State: Budget Re-Presentation and Commissioner List”

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, has laid out two conditions for resolving the ongoing political crisis in the state. Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Wike insisted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara must re-present the 2025 budget to the State Assembly and resubmit the list of his commissioners for clearance to restore peace.

“Wike’s Demands: A Path to Peace or Escalation?”

Wike emphasized that peace in Rivers State is contingent on doing “the right thing.” He stated, “What is peace? What is important is, let the right thing be done. When the right things are done, there will be peace. But if the right thing is not done, how would you say you want peace? Peace is predicated on doing the right thing.”

The FCT minister accused Fubara of engaging in illegality by bypassing the State Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, in key governance processes. “Go and re-present the budget, go and submit the list of the commissioners. You cannot do illegality,” Wike declared.

Wike also addressed his role in Fubara’s emergence as governor, revealing that he handpicked Fubara for the position despite opposition from some Ijaw politicians. He reiterated his controversial claim that the Ijaw ethnic group, to which Fubara belongs, is a minority in Rivers State and the Niger Delta. According to Wike, the Ijaw cannot produce governors in any state in the region except Bayelsa.

“The Political Feud: Wike vs. Fubara”

The rift between Wike and Fubara has dominated Rivers State politics since Fubara assumed office. The crisis escalated when Fubara was locked out of the State Assembly complex while attempting to present the 2025 budget. Wike’s latest demands add another layer of complexity to the feud, raising questions about the future of governance in the state.

“What’s Next for Rivers State?”

As the political standoff continues, the focus remains on whether Governor Fubara will comply with Wike’s conditions. The crisis has already disrupted governance in Rivers State, with the budget presentation stalled and key appointments pending.

The situation calls for urgent intervention to restore stability and ensure that the interests of Rivers State citizens are prioritized over political rivalries.
