“Ukraine Receives $970 Million from UK Under G7 Loan Backed by Frozen Russian Assets”

A Boost for Ukraine’s Defense
Ukraine has received $970 million as the first installment of the United Kingdom’s contribution to a G7 loan backed by frozen Russian assets. The funds, announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on March 7, 2025, will be used to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities amid its ongoing war with Russia.

This financial support is part of a broader $50 billion G7 initiative aimed at accelerating Ukraine’s recovery and resilience.

The G7 Loan Mechanism
The G7’s Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) scheme leverages frozen Russian assets to provide financial assistance to Ukraine. The UK has pledged $2.9 billion in total, to be disbursed in three equal installments.

Prime Minister Shmyhal expressed gratitude to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, the UK government, and G7 partners for creating a mechanism that ensures Russian funds are used to support Ukraine.

“I am grateful to Keir Starmer, the U.K. government, and our G7 partners for the mechanism to make Russian money work for Ukraine,” Shmyhal stated.

Strengthening Ukraine’s Defense
The $970 million installment will be directed toward enhancing Ukraine’s defense capabilities, including:

Procurement of advanced military equipment.

Reinforcement of frontline defenses.

Support for Ukrainian armed forces.

This financial boost comes at a critical time as Ukraine continues to resist Russian aggression and defend its sovereignty.

A Global Effort to Support Ukraine
The G7 loan scheme reflects the international community’s commitment to supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian invasion. By utilizing frozen Russian assets, the initiative ensures that Russia’s actions have financial consequences while providing Ukraine with the resources it needs to defend itself.

A Step Toward Victory
The $970 million installment from the UK marks a significant step in Ukraine’s efforts to strengthen its defense and resilience. As the G7 continues to mobilize resources, Ukraine remains steadfast in its determination to protect its sovereignty and achieve victory.

This initiative not only provides immediate support but also sends a powerful message of solidarity to Ukraine and a warning to aggressors that their actions will not go unanswered.
