A petrol tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, caught fire in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Sunday. The incident occurred at Onipe Village, near Idi Ayunre, along the Ijebu Ode–Ibadan Road.
What Happened?
According to reports, the tanker lost control and veered off the road into a bush, where it immediately caught fire. The Oyo State Fire Service was alerted at 8:05 AM, and a team led by ACFS Olubunmi was swiftly deployed to the scene.
Using a foam chemical compound, firefighters were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, although the tanker was significantly damaged.
Swift Response
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident and praised the quick response of the firefighting team. He also acknowledged the presence of the Nigerian Police from Idi Ayunre Division and members of the Agbekoya group, who provided security cover during the operation.
