The Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF), an initiative of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has officially handed over a state-of-the-art Emerging Technologies Centre (ETC) to Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH) in Igbesa, Ogun State.

This project is designed to enhance students’ learning experiences, foster digital innovation, and support research and development (R&D) to contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.

A Major Leap for Digital Learning in Ogun State
The commissioning of the ETC on Thursday marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s commitment to bridging the digital divide. The highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), ensuring the sustainability and effective utilization of the facility.

The tech hub is equipped with:
✅ 100 desktop computers
✅ Emerging technology applications
✅ High-speed internet bandwidth and connectivity tools

These resources will empower students and faculty members with cutting-edge technology for learning, research, and entrepreneurship.

USPF’s Commitment to Digital Inclusion
Speaking at the handover event, USPF Secretary, Yomi Arowosafe, emphasized the importance of ICT accessibility in unserved and underserved communities.

“This Centre represents more than just bricks and mortar. It embodies a vision, a commitment, and an investment in the future of Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.”

Under the leadership of Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, and Dr. Aminu Maida, NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, the USPF has spearheaded numerous ICT access projects across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

Boosting Innovation, Research, and Entrepreneurship
With OGITECH’s 9,300 students, the ETC is set to redefine digital learning by providing training opportunities in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity. It will also serve as a hub for startups and small businesses, fostering entrepreneurship and technological advancements.

OGITECH Pledges Commitment to Project Sustainability
OGITECH’s Rector, Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, expressed gratitude to the NCC and USPF, assuring them that the institute will maximize the centre’s potential.

“We will ensure the sustainability of the project and put it to effective use for the benefit of the entire community.”

USPF’s Long-Term Vision
The USPF was established to ensure universal access to affordable telecommunications services in rural, unserved, and underserved communities in Nigeria. The MoU signed during the inauguration aligns with the fund’s sustainability strategy, ensuring that beneficiaries take ownership of such projects.

With initiatives like the ETC, Nigeria is taking a bold step towards digital transformation, providing youths with the tools to thrive in a tech-driven world.
