Governor Takes a Stand Against Student Labour
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially prohibited teachers from assigning manual labour tasks to students, both within and outside school premises.

The decision came after an unscheduled visit to the School for Arabic Studies in Kano, where the governor witnessed students digging a toilet pipeline—a sight that left him visibly displeased.

Governor Yusuf Confronts School Authorities
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, Yusuf immediately confronted the school’s headmaster, questioning why students were engaged in such physically demanding work.

The headmaster defended the practice, claiming the work was done after school hours, but the governor stood firm in his opposition.

“Schools Are for Learning, Not Labour”
Emphasizing that schools should focus on education and moral guidance, Yusuf declared that forcing students into manual labour was unacceptable.

“Schools are institutions for education and moral guidance, not for manual labour,” he said.
“It is unacceptable for students to be subjected to such tasks when they should be focusing on their studies.”

Infrastructure Projects Now Under Government Oversight
To ensure proper school maintenance, the governor directed that all school infrastructure or maintenance projects must be submitted to the Ministry of Education or his office for official execution.

During his visit, Yusuf also reassured the school management of his administration’s commitment to renovating dilapidated structures, including the school’s mosque.
