“APC Has No Alternative to Tinubu for 2027, Says Senator Orji Kalu”

Tinubu’s 2027 Bid Gets Strong Backing
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Chief Whip of the Senate, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no alternative presidential candidate for the 2027 elections other than President Bola Tinubu. Speaking with the Senate Press Corps on Tuesday, Kalu expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and urged Nigerians to be patient with the ongoing economic reforms. Here’s what he had to say.

Why Tinubu is APC’s Only Option
Senator Kalu emphasized that the APC is fully committed to supporting President Tinubu for a second term, citing his performance in office and the need for continuity.

His Words:
“We are not looking for another presidential candidate outside of our party; we are fully aligned with democratic principles and supporting the sitting President. Reforms are difficult, but they are necessary. The economy has been cut into pieces, and now we are trying to sew it back together.”

Kalu acknowledged that the economic reforms have put Nigerians under pressure but argued that they are essential for building a stronger economy. He called for patience, noting that economic challenges are not unique to Nigeria.

Tinubu’s Leadership Style: Consultation and Strategy
Kalu praised Tinubu’s leadership style, highlighting his commitment to wide consultations before making key decisions.

His Words:
“The President is now making wider consultations, both locally and internationally, before taking key economic decisions.”

This approach, according to Kalu, ensures that decisions are well-thought-out and in the best interest of the nation.

On June 12 and Babangida’s Memoir
Senator Kalu also weighed in on the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election, a topic that has resurfaced following the release of former military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida’s memoir.

Call for a Second Edition: Kalu expressed hope for a second edition of Babangida’s book, stating that the first edition did not reveal the full truth.

Posthumous Recognition for Abiola: He advocated for the official recognition of Moshood Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12 election, as a past president.

His Words:
“Moshood Abiola should be sworn into office posthumously. Since Abiola won, his picture should be placed among Nigeria’s past presidents. I commend former President Buhari for giving him a posthumous national honor. I would also appeal to President Tinubu to officially recognize him and place his image where it belongs. This would help bring closure to his family.”

A Call for Patience and Unity
Senator Kalu’s remarks underscore the APC’s confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and his vision for Nigeria’s future. While acknowledging the challenges posed by ongoing reforms, Kalu urged Nigerians to remain patient and united. As the 2027 elections approach, it’s clear that Tinubu’s candidacy will be a central focus for the APC.
