Diddy Acknowledges Assaulting Cassie, Issues Apology: ‘I Accept Full Responsibility’”

Diddy’s Apology: Taking Responsibility for His Actions

In a video apology posted on Instagram and Facebook, rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs admitted to punching and kicking his ex-girlfriend in a hotel hallway in 2016. The footage, released by CNN, showed Combs in a towel assaulting Cassie, his former girlfriend and R&B singer. Combs expressed deep remorse, acknowledging his actions as “inexcusable” and taking full responsibility. He stated he was “disgusted” by his behavior then and now.

Cassie, whose legal name is Cassandra Ventura, filed a lawsuit against Combs in November, alleging years of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. The suit was settled quickly, but it drew attention to Combs, prompting further lawsuits and a federal criminal investigation into sex trafficking, resulting in raids on his properties in Los Angeles and Miami.

In the apology video, Combs disclosed seeking professional help, including therapy and rehab, and asked for forgiveness, expressing commitment to becoming a better person. Despite not seeking forgiveness, he reiterated his sincere apology.

The security camera footage, dated March 5, 2016, corresponds to an incident described in Ventura’s lawsuit, alleging Combs paid the hotel $50,000 for the video immediately after. Combs has not addressed this claim, nor has his representatives. The source of the footage obtained by CNN was not disclosed.

Douglas Wigdor, Cassie’s lawyer, condemned the video, emphasizing Cassie’s bravery in coming forward. He described the footage as confirming Combs’ “disturbing and predatory behavior.

Microsoft to Shutdown Innovation Centre in Lagos, Nigeria: 200+ Jobs at risk

Microsoft to shutdown its Innovation Centre In Lagos state

Microsoft’s African Development Centre (ADC) in Lagos, Nigeria, is facing closure, putting over 200 jobs at risk. Sources familiar with the matter revealed to The Guardian on Tuesday that Microsoft management had informed staff of the impending shutdown.

While no official statement has been released by Microsoft, affected employees may receive salaries until June and retain their health insurance.

A source within Microsoft’s Lagos office neither confirmed nor denied the news when contacted. “I cannot say anything on that for now. Thank you,” the source stated.

    Reasons Behind the Closure

The exact reason for the closure remains unclear, but industry insiders suggest it could be linked to Nigeria’s current economic conditions. However, the ADC in East Africa, based in Nairobi, Kenya, reportedly remains unaffected.

Established in 2022 as part of Microsoft’s $100 million investment in Africa, the ADC aimed to foster tech solutions addressing local and global challenges.

Gafar Lawal, Managing Director of Microsoft ADC, West Africa, expressed optimism during the launch: “We intended to recruit 500 full-time engineers by the end of the year or by 2023. However, currently, we have exceeded 500. This is to tell you about the abundance of talents we have in Africa.”

    Impact and Fallout

Since its inception, the ADC reportedly employed 120 engineers and over 200 total staff in Nigeria. Despite Microsoft’s commitment to African talent and innovation, the potential closure underscores the challenges facing tech development in Nigeria amidst economic uncertainties.

Microsoft’s expanded presence in Africa aimed to empower partners and customers, particularly in sectors such as FinTech, AgriTech, and OffGrid energy. However, the fate of the ADC highlights the risks and uncertainties associated with operating in the Nigerian market.

    Community Reactions

News of Microsoft’s potential departure has sparked concern and discussions about the wider implications for Nigeria’s economy. The ripple effects of job losses extend beyond the immediate employees, impacting printing presses, HMOs, brand communication firms, audit firms, and stationery vendors.

    Conclusion

While Microsoft’s commitment to African talent and innovation remains evident, the potential closure of its innovation centre in Lagos highlights the challenges and complexities of doing business in Nigeria’s volatile economic landscape.

EFCC Denies Allegations of Releasing List of Ex-Governors Under Probe

EFCC Clarifies Misleading Reports on Alleged Probe List

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has vehemently denied the circulation of a purported list containing 58 ex-governors allegedly under investigation for corruption, amounting to N2.18 trillion.

READ ALSOEFCC to Probe 58 Ex-Governors Over Alleged N2.187trn Fraud

In an official press statement released on Sunday, the EFCC clarified that it neither issued such a list nor engaged in discussions regarding the investigation of former governors with any media outlet.

According to Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, the report titled ‘EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion’ is categorically false and malicious.

The EFCC emphasized that the alleged list is a product of misinformation and fabrication, serving undisclosed motives known only to its creators.

Oyewale urged the public to disregard the unfounded report and advised media outlets to verify information directly from the commission to prevent the dissemination of false and misleading information.

While addressing recent developments, the EFCC confirmed receiving a fresh petition concerning an alleged N70 billion corruption case involving Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

The commission’s acting Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwajuren, stated that they would review the petition, indicating the EFCC’s commitment to addressing allegations of financial misconduct.

Previously, on May 18, 2023, the EFCC announced its investigation into corruption allegations, phantom contracts, and the diversion of funds amounting to over N70 billion allegedly perpetrated by the minister during his tenure as Zamfara State governor from 2019 to 2023.

EFCC Probe: 58 Former Governors Accused of N2.187trn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been investigating a staggering 58 former governors for allegations of embezzlement, looting, misappropriation, or laundering of N2.187 trillion since Nigeria’s return to democracy 25 years ago. These allegations span across all regions of the country.

Full List of Former Governors Under EFCC Probe

The list includes governors from all parts of Nigeria, with some currently under investigation, while others have already been probed, investigated, and even prosecuted. Notably, the accused former governors represent a significant portion of the 170 governors Nigeria has seen since the return to civil rule in 1999.

    See List below

    Allegations and Investigations

The EFCC’s investigations reveal a disturbing trend of corruption among former governors, with allegations ranging from embezzlement to money laundering. The total amount allegedly misappropriated, N2.187 trillion, is a staggering sum that exceeds the budgets of entire states and cities in Nigeria.

    State-by-State Breakdown

Each state in Nigeria has had its share of governance, with varying numbers of governors over the years. Some states, like Ekiti, have seen a higher turnover of governors compared to others. However, the common thread among many former governors is their alleged involvement in fraudulent activities.

    Convictions and Prosecutions

Despite the extensive investigations and allegations, only a handful of former governors have been convicted. Notably, Chief Lucky Igbinedion (Edo), late DSP Alamieyeseigha (Bayelsa), Jolly Nyame (Taraba), and Joshua Dariye (Plateau) are among the few who have faced legal consequences for their actions.

    EFCC’s Record

While the EFCC has secured thousands of convictions over the years, including high-profile cases, the rate of convictions for former governors remains relatively low. This raises questions about the effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts and the challenges of prosecuting powerful individuals.

    Continued Vigilance

The EFCC remains committed to its mandate of fighting corruption and ensuring accountability in Nigeria. With ongoing investigations and prosecutions, the commission aims to hold all individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their status or political affiliations.
